On the afternoon of October 24, 2019, the launching ceremony of the International Business College "Torch of Excellence" project and the first phase of the first season event: The project application sharing meeting was held in the lecture hall on the first floor of the complex building. According to the actual situation and development needs of the college, combined with specific administrative work, effectively and deeply promote one of the key activities of the theme education. Leaders attending this event included Vice Dean Yun Qiaoyun , Vice Dean Chai Shaoming, Vice Dean Zhuang Huijuan, and Deputy Secretary of Party Branch Liu Bangwei. Representatives of teachers and students of the college also participated in this activity. This event was hosted by Xie Yongwen.

First of all, Vice Dean Yun Qiaoyun gave a speech for this event. She started from the overall strategic plan of the South China Normal University of "committed to building a high-level, new normal research university", the new development positioning of "internationalization, new engineering, interdisciplinary, and application-oriented" of the Nanhai campus, and the "internationalization" of the International Business College. The development orientation explains the development needs and importance of carrying out the "Torch of Excellence" project, and introduces in detail the design ideas and overall arrangement of the "Torch of Excellence" project  in this season, and encourages teachers and students to actively exchange ideas, inspire wisdom, and ignite the dream of scientific research and harvest fruitful results. She also wishes the "Torch of Excellence" project a complete success and become an important driving force for the development of scientific research of the college.

Subsequently, Vice Dean Chai Shaoming issued letters of appointment for the four speakers of this season. The four presenters are Ms. Li Shuang, a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of Edinburgh, UK (1st from the left), Ms. Xu Hongmei, a PhD in Finance from the University of Munster, Germany (2nd from the left), and Chen Ying, a PhD in Accounting jointly trained by Sun Yat-sen University and City University of Hong Kong Teacher (third from left) and Professor Lu Juan (fourth from left), PhD in Economics from the University of Hong Kong, all four of whom are newly introduced young talents from our college this year.

Following the launching ceremony, the activity of the first phase of the first season of the "Torch of Excellence" project is the project application sharing session. The sharing session was hosted by Mr. Yang Junkai. The sharing meeting was organized around the "National Natural Science Youth Project and Crosswise tasks". Three teachers, Chen Ying, Xu Hongmei, and Lu Juan shared their experience in applying for scientific research projects to the teachers and students present. During the sharing session, the three presenters had a lively discussion with the participating teachers and students, and the participating teachers and students all expressed their benefit.

Mrs. Chen Ying focused on sharing her experience in applying for the National Natural Science Youth Program in terms of research direction selection, research topic selection, research topic form selection, preliminary topic preparation, etc., and combined excellent scientific research works to introduce the evaluation criteria of the submitted works and elements of outstanding topics. In addition, combining her rich experience, she puts forward several suggestions for teachers and students in carrying out scientific research activities: the first one is to clarify the research direction and pay attention to the cross integration between disciplines; the second one is that the research topic needs the indomitable spirit. it must start from theory, should also be attributed to practice; the third one is to focus on writing skills and pay attention to the use of logic diagrams.

Ms. Xu Hongmei focused on the preparations for the National Natural Science Youth Project declaration. She shared her declaration process with the teachers and students present in terms of project time planning, application code, team, budget and declaration writing, and obtained the following experience: Firstly, pay attention to project time planning and make preparations in advance; Secondly, attach importance to referring to the template of successfully submitted works, and think highly of the review and suggestions of experts, and check for omissions; Thirdly, take the content of the application seriously.

Mrs. Lu Juan focused on sharing her experience in writing crosswise project tasks declarations. She combined with excellent examples to focus on the basis of the topic, the main apparent problems facing the research project, the research objectives and research content, the key issues to be solved, and the main innovations. In terms of points and other aspects, the teachers and students present were told one by one the elements of an excellent classroom declaration.

        Under the main purpose of developing a high-level international research-oriented Nanhai campus, the Elite Torch Project, as a sub-project of the International Business College’s "Talent Revitalization" strategic project, focuses on meso-level and micro-level problem solving, and focuses on sharing by young talented teachers , to lead and create a strong international teaching and research atmosphere for the college, to cultivate the learning, teaching and research capabilities of teachers and students in a cross-cultural environment, to help the college improve the output level of scientific research results and consolidate the quality of international talent training. The project effectively stimulated the enthusiasm of all teachers and students to pursue scientific research, to create a strong teaching and research atmosphere in the International Business College. This semester is the first quarter of activities, which divided into three themes: "Project Application Sharing Session", "How to Do Scientific Research", and "Overseas Research Roundtable Forum". Eight sub-events will be arranged one after another in the upcoming months.
